It is difficult to know how much water your dog drinks in a day. Dogs are messy water drinkers. One way to keep track of amount of water your dog drinks is to refill the bowl same time every day to same level and keep track of how much you need to refill every day.

The amount of water your dog drinks could provide early signal to health issues. According to WebMD, roughly a dog drinks one ounce of water for every pound of body weight per day. But as a dog owner you need to understand that your dog may drink more water if they are active, or if the weather is hot.

If your dog drinks more water, and you notice the change, it is time to talk to your vet about it. With very few tests, vet could let you know if there are any health issues with your dog.

A dry food diet or food with high sodium could also lead to high water intake.
